Third edition of the Pictures at an Exhibition project at Dulčić Masle Pulitika Gallery

The Rest is Music organization in collaboration with the Museum of Modern Art Dubrovnik and with the support of the Dubrovnik Tourist Board, have successfully realized a cycle of musical matinées entitled Pictures at an Exhibition. In this year’s third edition of the project, which is intended for foreign and domestic audience with the aim of creating new development programs of cultural tourism, the matinées were performed every Saturday in September and October, starting at 12 noon at Dulčić Masle Pulitika Gallery in the heart of Dubrovnik Old Town.

The program Pictures at an Exhibition is created on the path of the popular cycle by the Russian composer Modest Mussorgsky. It combines impressions of Croatian art and culture with aim to create an unique experience of Dulčić Masle Pulitika Gallery for its visitors. As an “universal language” , music can tell stories and create beautiful colours of sound, so for the past 8 weeks we’ve been musically touring the masterpieces of Dubrovnik colourism-the permanent Exhibition of Dulčić Masle Pulitika Gallery, as well as the Landscapes and Cityscapes from the MOMA Dubrovnik Collection.

The visitors had the opportunity to get more familiar with Croatian painters and composers of a big importance and contribution to Croatian Art and Culture with Centuries long tradition. We toured the paintings which represent the Dubrovnik colourist circle-expressionism which was created spontaneously and individually. Among them, we find the three prominent representatives; Ivo Dulčić, Antun Masle and Đuro Pulitika, painters to whom this Gallery and its permanent Exhibition is dedicated. On the path of their powerful colourism, we toured the Mediterranean landscapes through the sound of Croatian classical music composers, traveled around the world (from Dubrovnik, Zagreb, Vienna and back) and danced the Dubrovnik Counterdance, Valse and a Tango-in the old and modern manner.

Numerous foreign and local visitors who participated in the program, wrote their impressions: “Thank you for the wonderful music experience that enriched the pleasure of visiting  Dubrovnik. Excellent music and musicians. “; “The bell of joy in a place like this, what a brilliant one!”

The author of the concept is pianist Ivana Jelača who performs solo and accompanied by cellist  Nastasja Palčok .

With best regards to our dear visitors and partners,  we are looking forward to the next edition of the project in 2020.
